According to INEC, there are 19 people contesting for the post of governor. Below are the top 4 contenders under the leading political parties: APC, PDP, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Labour Party (LP).

Osagie Ize-Iyamu is a Nigerian pastor, political figure, former Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Edo State Government.
He is the gubernatorial nominee of the Edo State People’s Democratic Party for the 2016 Edo State gubernatorial election. He was previously a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was the National Vice Chairman, South-South Zone of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
He served as Director General of Adams Oshiomhole’s 2nd term Campaign Organisation. He was also the Coordinator of Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation. Recently, he was honoured by the Benson Idahosa University with an honorary doctorate degree in Public Administration.
2. Godwin Obaseki

Godwin Obaseki is the pioneering and current Chairman of the Edo State (Nigeria) Economic and Strategy Team which was inaugurated by Governor Adams Oshiomole in March 2009. He is the gubernatorial nominee of the Edo State All Progressive Congress (APC).
He recently declared his intention to run for Governor, Edo State 2016 on the APC platform. Obaseki holds post graduate degrees in both Finance and International Business, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stock Brokers, Nigeria.
Obaseki serves as executive board member of several private companies including Afrinvest.
3. Pastor Amos Osalumese Areloegbe (LP)

PASTOR Amos Osalumese Areloegbe, is a gubernatorial aspirant in Edo state under the Labour Party. He was a pastor in living faith church and in the church of Reverend Chris Oyakhilome’s church.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, he worked briefly before he yielded to the call to contest the next gubernatorial election. He speaks on his ambition as well as on other issues.
4. Osaro Onaiwu

Earl Osaro Osaze Onaiwu was born on December 23 1958. He is a Nigerian politician, businessman, former Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum and the gubernatorial nominee for the All Progressives Grand Alliance of Edo State in the 2016 election.
He was born in Benin City to parents who were both educators, Onaiwu attended Ogbe Primary School before going to Baptist High School.
